Camp Shakespeare

Elementary School Campers

M-F, June 16-27, 9:00-12:00

Kids enter the wonderful world of theater and discover one of the greatest writers of all time during Georgia Shakespeare’s award-winning Camp Shakespeare.  Using theater games, acting exercises, arts and crafts and a lot of imagination, children learn while having a great time!   Kids even get stage time when they present a special performance on the final day for friends and family.

Middle School Shakespeareance

M-F, July 7-18, 9:00-12:00

Shakespeareance performers explore and present a 45-minute cutting of one of Shakespeare's plays, complete with stage combat, costumes, and a final performance for friends and family!  Games, improvisation, acting exercises, and arts and crafts are included to immerse the Shakespeareance performer in a fun and engaging way into the world of William Shakespeare.

High School Shakespeare Conservatory

Tuesday-Saturday, July 22-August 2, 10:00-4:00

For the serious high school actor looking for training, this two-week intensive is an opportunity to work with members of Georgia Shakespeare's award winning company of Equity actors in the areas of  voice and text, movement, monologues and scenework. In addition there are seminars in stage combat and audition technique.  This year's teachers include Carolyn Cook, Chris Ensweiler, and vocal coach Cynthia Barrett.  Participants will learn one monologue and one scene from Shakespeare to be performed for friends and family on the mainstage of Georgia Shakespeare, the Conant Performing Arts Center, on Saturday, August 2nd.

A letter from Education Director Allen O'Reilly:

Dear Parents, Teachers, Students and Friends,

Welcome to the Georgia Shakespeare education website, where community education is a cornerstone of the Georgia Shakespeare mission. I am positively thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with our community, and I look forward to the endless creative possibilities! Since 1986, our founding year, more than 750,000 students have been a part of our art.  From classes, to live student matinee performances, to Shakespeare in Your Neighborhood, Georgia Shakespeare presents high production values and professionalism, while striving to deliver the most fun, engaging, and comprehensive programming in the arts and the spoken word.

Our education department is growing by leaps and bounds, and we want you to be a part of our growth! Since being awarded the 2002 Abby award for Excellence in Arts Education, we have deepened our commitment to providing the best curriculum based programming, while always remembering to play and have a great time! Our educational staff boasts actors with over 20 years of professional acting experience, professionally trained teaching artists, and education specialists. We are a member of the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, and our Education Associate, Brooke Collins, is the co-chair of their national conference to be held here in Atlanta in July of 2008.

Georgia Shakespeare has one of the largest pallets of educational offerings in the southeast, and it is all based in classical works and theatre arts.

The journey begins with a phone call or an email so that we can get to know you! We can even craft a program that is original and unique for your school or student. We thrive on communicating and collaborating to empower students, parents, and teachers to have a fantastic time with Shakespeare, theatre, and the entire learning experience. We can't wait to talk with you!
